Kell prepares for Spa on back of scoring podium on “home” soil

James finishes third in Gold Cup at Brands Hatch but denied a second podium

James Kell at Brands Hatch, May 2026James Kell heads to Belgium later this month (19-20 May) to lay the foundations for a successful Spa 24 Hours on the back of recording a GT World Challenge Europe Gold Cup podium on “home” soil.

James impressively finished third in the opening one-hour race partnered by Arthur Rougier in their CSA Racing entered McLaren 720S EVO at Brands Hatch last weekend (2-3 May) – the “old school” Grand Prix track notoriously difficult for overtakes.

Rougier took the chequered flag third in the second Sprint race but a post-race penalty dropped the #111 McLaren to fifth, denying James a third consecutive Gold category top-three placing, having finished second in the opening event of the season at Paul Ricard last month (12 April).

James Kell on the Podium at Brands Hatch, May 2026The 28-year-old official McLaren GT3 Junior Driver now concentrates on fine-tuning the 720S EVO to the undulating 4.35-mile Spa-Francorchamps circuit where he won the Silver Cup two years ago, in readiness for the Blue Riband event in the GT World Challenge Europe, the Spa 24 Hours, 27-28 June.

Kell starts the next GT World Challenge Europe event at Monza (29-31 May) placed POS in the Driver’s standings.
